Munich Airport, officially named Flughafen München ‘Franz Josef Strauß’ (IATA code: MUC), is one of the largest and most modern airports in Europe, located approximately 28 kilometres north-east of the city centre. Opened in 1992, it replaced the former Riem Airport and quickly became a key transport hub for Germany and the entire region.
